What Does Peach Smell Like in Perfume?

A fresh peach accord can suggest ripe flesh, fuzzy skin and a small amount of green sharpness. Richer versions may smell creamy, nectar-like or almost milky because of materials known as lactones. The note can range from a light natural fruit effect to a dense, sweet and long-lasting peach character. Perfumers often balance it with flowers, citrus or woods so that it feels smooth rather than overly sugary.

Peach is usually a constructed accord made from several fragrance molecules. Gamma-undecalactone, sometimes traditionally called Aldehyde C-14, is strongly associated with a fruity peach-like smell and can also have creamy or coconut-like sides. Other fruity, green, floral and woody materials may be added to recreate the smell of peach flesh and skin. This allows the perfumer to control whether the finished note feels fresh, velvety, creamy or syrupy.

Peach is generally used in the top or heart of fruity, floral, chypre and gourmand fragrances. It blends well with rose, jasmine, violet, osmanthus, citrus, vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood and musk. A small amount can make flowers feel softer and more rounded without creating an obvious fruit smell. A stronger peach accord can become a main feature and give the fragrance a rich, juicy or creamy character.
