What Does Moss Smell Like in Perfume?

Moss in perfume usually smells earthy, damp and green, with forest-floor, woody, resinous and slightly smoky sides. It is a broad description rather than one precise material. A moss note may suggest tree moss, damp woodland growth or a constructed forest accord. Moss is mainly used in the base.

What Does Moss Smell Like?

Moss can feel cool, shaded and earthy, with damp bark, green growth and dry resin underneath. IFF describes tree-moss absolute as warm and mossy with earthy undertones and a resinous character reminiscent of fir balsam. Other modern moss materials can add marine, woody or smoky facets.

Where Does Moss Come From?

Natural moss extracts may be obtained from specific lichens, while modern moss accords can also use fragrance molecules designed to reproduce earthy and forest-like effects. Moss is broader than oakmoss: oakmoss refers to a particular lichen material, while a general moss note can represent several damp green textures.
