What Is the Aquatic Fragrance Accord?

An aquatic accord usually smells cool, clean, watery and airy. Marine versions may have salty, seaweed-like or slightly mineral qualities, while softer aquatic accords can smell more like fresh water, wet leaves or cool air. Citrus and aromatic notes can make them brighter, and soft musky materials can make the watery effect feel smoother and cleaner. Some aquatic accords are strongly oceanic, but others are subtle and simply make a perfume feel more open and refreshing.

What Does the Aquatic Accord Smell Like?

Aquatic accords cover more than the familiar idea of a salty sea breeze. A marine accord can combine salty and green effects to suggest the coast, while a freshwater style may be clearer, softer and less briny. Watery molecules can also introduce transparent floral or fruity qualities, so an aquatic effect does not always smell obviously of the sea.

Other notes can change the direction considerably. Grapefruit can sharpen the freshness, aromatic herbs such as sage can give it a greener edge, and soft musk-like materials can smooth the composition. Sea salt and seaweed effects can move it towards a more recognisable marine character. The result is often a feeling of space, moisture and freshness rather than the smell of one identifiable ingredient.
