Ambrette comes from the seeds of Abelmoschus moschatus, a plant native across tropical and subtropical parts of Asia. The aromatic seeds can be hydro-distilled to produce ambrette oil. Givaudan also uses a two-stage process in which the seed oil is refined by molecular distillation to emphasise its musky and fruity character.

Ambrette is used in musky, floral, woody, fruity and amber fragrances. It blends well with iris, rose, jasmine, pear, citrus, sandalwood, amber and clean musks. It can make fruit feel softer, add warmth to pale flowers or provide a natural-smelling skin-like texture without using animal musk.
